A Bill to allow the voters to determine if Parker leaves RTD.

SB22-046 was heard today at the Colorado State Capitol. My thanks to our sponsor Senator Jim Smallwood. Thanks to my Town of Parker colleagues Councilmember Todd Hendreks, and Councilmember Cheryl Poage for taking the time to provide input on what transportation needs are in Parker. And thanks to our Douglas County Commissioner George Teal and Commissioner Abe Laydon for their excellent testimony.

While we lost the vote 3-2 on a party-line vote. Even after we conceded to all of RTD's requests. It is clear that taxation is the name of the game in transportation and that other municipalities love Parker's money funding their transportation solutions! We will assess what we learned from the experience, and will be back next year with an even broader coalition. We will be leaving RTD. As taxpayers in the Town of Parker, you should be furious that you sent $15 million of your hard earned tax dollars in 2021 to this failing system that can't provide solutions!
